The second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission is about 1.6 times bigger than the first. It now pays for machines, materials and Indian chip designs too, not only factories.
Why it matters for you: more support for design companies can mean more RTL and verification jobs in India.
India's chip mission is getting a much bigger budget for its second phase: ₹1.25 lakh crore, up from ₹76,000 crore. The programme period is now 12 years instead of 5. The money also goes to machines, materials, chemicals and Indian chip designs. Design companies will get special focus, which could bring more design and verification jobs.

Tata Electronics expects about 450 Indian and foreign suppliers to support its chip factory in Dholera, Gujarat. It is building a 363-acre ready-to-use vendor park for them. A fab cannot stop even for a few hours, so repair teams, spare parts, chemicals and gases must be close by. This can create many engineering jobs beyond chip design.

Tape-out is the moment a finished, fully checked chip design is handed over to make photomasks, the stencils used to print the chip. After that, a wafer spends about three months in the factory. A mistake found later means fixing and taping out again, which costs months and money. That is why verification engineers are so important.
